Day of your tattoo: Purchase an aftercare kit from Truth Be Told, or from Mad Rabbit. If Saniderm is applied- leave on for 4 hours. (If you receive your tattoo in the evening, it is okay to leave it on overnight.) When you remove the saniderm, thoroughly wash your tattoo with mild soap and water, such as Dial Antibacterial Soap. Pat the tattoo with a clean, dry towel, and apply a VERY THIN layer of ointment. (Please Note: It is normal for there to be a small amount of color/ ink residue when you remove the plastic.)
-
Day 1-4: Leave Saniderm on as long as it is not full of fluid. If there is excess plasma, remove the wrap.
-
Day 5-7: After the first 4 days, wash the tattoo twice a day with antibacterial soap, and a THIN layer of aftercare 2-4 times a day to keep from being dry. Avoid letting water run directly on your tattoo when showering. It is normal for thin flakes of color to be coming off at this stage. Allow them to do this naturally. DO NOT PICK AT YOUR SCABS IF YOU HAVE THEM.
-
Day 8-14: At this point, continue to use VERY THIN layers of your ointment, or switch to a fragrance free lotion as needed. Keep the tattoo from getting wet. Do not take baths or soak in a hot tub. After showering, pat dry the tattoo, do not rub it with a towel. It is normal for a tattoo to be itchy at this stage. Try not to scratch it or wear tight or restrictive clothing that may rub on your tattoo.
-
Day 15- Life of the tattoo: Continue using the lotion or ointment as needed when your tattoo looks dry. It will have a shiny appearance for a few weeks until it is completely healed. For the life of your tattoo, you should always put sunscreen on in order to protect your color from the sun. If you want the tattoo to stay as bright as possible, continue to keep the area of the tattoo shaved.
